This is a research-grounded starter formula — not a standardized finished product. Doses are evidence-based maintenance recommendations for healthy adults. Individual responses vary. Consult your physician before starting any supplement regimen, especially if you have a medical condition or take prescription medications. These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA. The Formula

9 ingredients · 14 capsules/day · Each dose is study-attributed — see citations in line.

Acetyl-L-Carnitine HCl

1000 mg

Acetyl-L-Carnitine is traditionally dosed at 1000–2000 mg/day for exercise recovery support; the acetyl form crosses the blood-brain barrier for combined physical and cognitive support. This dose reflects commonly studied ranges across published trials.

CherryPURETart Cherry (CherryPURE Powder)

480 mg

A 2015 randomized trial (PMID 26578852, n=23) found 480 mg/day CherryPURE Montmorency tart cherry concentrate reduced muscle soreness and attenuated creatinine changes after resistance exercise; this concentrated powder is equivalent to roughly 100+ fresh tart cherries. (PMID 26578852)

CoQ10 (Ubiquinone)

100 mg

A 2008 randomized trial (PMID 18318910, n=41) found 100 mg/day CoQ10 for 14 days increased plasma CoQ10 levels and showed a trend toward improved aerobic performance; CoQ10 is critical for mitochondrial ATP production in high-demand muscle tissue. (PMID 18318910)

Astaxanthin (Haematococcus Pluvialis)

8 mg

A 2019 randomized trial (PMID 33344941, n=22) found 12 mg/day astaxanthin reduced blood lactate rise and improved oxygen uptake recovery after exercise over 30 days; 8 mg/day is used here as a daily maintenance dose consistent with EFSA's assessed safe upper level for natural astaxanthin from Haematococcus pluvialis. (PMID 33344941)

Albion® Magnesium BisglycinateMagnesium (as Albion® Bisglycinate Chelate Buffered)

200 mg elemental

Magnesium depletion accelerates during intense exercise; bisglycinate chelate is selected for improved absorption and tolerability compared to oxide (approximately 4% for oxide, PMID 11794633) for efficient repletion. (PMID 11794633)

Vitamin D3

2000 IU

A large randomized trial (PMID 30415629, n=25,871) used 2000 IU/day vitamin D3 as the studied maintenance dose; adequate vitamin D status is associated with muscle function in athletic populations. (PMID 30415629)

OptiMSM®MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane — OptiMSM®)

Provisional — dose pending confirmation
1500 mg

A 2023 randomized trial (PMID 37447322, n=88) found 2000 mg/day MSM improved knee comfort and health perception over 12 weeks; 1500 mg/day is used here as a maintenance dose — lower than the 2000 mg studied dose. This ingredient is listed as provisional pending AKBA-grade confirmation of the companion Boswellin® ingredient. (PMID 37447322)

Boswellin®Boswellin® (Boswellia Serrata Extract)

Provisional — dose pending confirmation
100 mg

A 2008 randomized trial (PMID 18667054, n=75) found 100–250 mg/day of 5-Loxin Boswellia serrata extract (enriched for AKBA) improved knee comfort and function over 90 days; Boswellin® at 100 mg is provisional — the AKBA percentage of this batch is pending supplier confirmation (minimum 30% AKBA required for this dose claim). (PMID 18667054)

Potassium (as Potassium Citrate)

99 mg

Potassium is an electrolyte depleted during exercise; 99 mg is the per-serving regulatory limit for single-ingredient potassium supplements and serves as a meaningful daily replacement alongside dietary sources.

Why One Formula Beats the Stack

Form Quality Gaps

The commodity versions most single-ingredient bottles use — and why they fall short.

FormulaForge FormCommodity DefaultWhat the Research Shows
OptiMSM® distillation-grade MSMGeneric MSM (recrystallization process)OptiMSM® is produced by multi-stage distillation — the highest-purity MSM manufacturing process — removing contaminants retained by less expensive recrystallization. A 2017 double-blind, placebo-controlled trial (PMID 28736511) specifically used OptiMSM® in healthy adults following a half-marathon.See the evidence →
CherryPURE concentrated tart cherry powder (480 mg)Generic tart cherry extract at 250–500 mgThe randomized sports recovery trial (PMID 26578852) specifically used CherryPURE — a Montmorency variety concentrate standardized for anthocyanin content — at 480 mg/day; generic tart cherry extracts vary widely in active content and are not equivalent.
Albion® Magnesium Bisglycinate at 200 mg elementalMagnesium oxideMagnesium oxide provides approximately 4% intestinal fractional absorption (PMID 11794633), severely limiting repletion during periods of heavy training; bisglycinate chelate is selected for improved absorption and tolerability.
Astaxanthin 8 mg (EFSA-aligned dose)Astaxanthin 4 mgPublished exercise recovery research has used astaxanthin at doses of up to 12 mg/day (PMID 33344941); many retail products provide 4 mg — this formula uses 8 mg, within the range studied in peer-reviewed research and consistent with EFSA's assessed safe upper level for natural astaxanthin from H. pluvialis.
Boswellin® AKBA-standardized Boswellia serrata extractStandard boswellia extract (unstandardized AKBA)In a Sabinsa-sponsored, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled pilot trial (PMID 30838706, n=48, 120 days), a Boswellia serrata extract (Boswellin®) showed improvements in knee osteoarthritis outcomes versus placebo. Standard commodity boswellia extracts vary in AKBA content and are not equivalent.See the evidence →

Pricing context

Eight separate recovery products (tart cherry, CoQ10, astaxanthin, magnesium, D3, MSM, boswellia, potassium) from premium brands typically run $100–$140/month. This formula's live quote typically comes in meaningfully below that — with OptiMSM® and CherryPURE branded forms that budget generics can't match.

Exact pricing is quoted live in the builder based on your personalized formula. Example figures are illustrative only and reflect in-one example market research — not a guaranteed price or saving.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this formula complete, or should I still take creatine and protein?

This is a recovery capsule formula. Creatine and collagen/protein are classified as bulk powders (>2000 mg/dose) and are not appropriate for capsule form — they would require many capsules per serving. A companion powder supplement (creatine + collagen + essential amino acids) pairs well with this capsule stack and can be added in the builder.

Why is the Boswellin® AKBA-grade listed as provisional?

Boswellin® at 100 mg is only effective for joint support if the extract meets ≥30% AKBA content. We are awaiting final supplier confirmation of the AKBA percentage for this batch. The ingredient is listed in the formula, but we note this confirmation is pending — the dose claim depends on it.

When should I take this formula — pre- or post-workout?

Most of these ingredients work best when taken consistently daily regardless of training timing. CoQ10 supports energy metabolism across the full day; tart cherry and astaxanthin reduce cumulative oxidative stress with repeated daily dosing. Consult your physician for personalized timing.

Is astaxanthin at 8 mg safe for daily use?

EFSA assessed natural astaxanthin from Haematococcus pluvialis as safe at up to 8 mg/day; this formula uses 8 mg in alignment with that assessed safe level. Published exercise studies have used up to 12 mg/day (PMID 33344941) with no adverse signals, but 8 mg is the EFSA-aligned daily maintenance dose used here. Consult your physician before starting.
