- A 2001 human pharmacokinetic study found that salicin from a standardized willow bark extract was absorbed and converted to salicylic acid, reaching peak serum levels within about 2 hours of oral intake. The researchers noted that salicin's serum salicylate levels alone were unlikely to fully account for willow bark's traditional analgesic reputation. PubMed
