- A 2025 systematic review and meta-analysis of 11 randomized controlled trials (718 adults) found that barberry supplementation — a source of berberine — was associated with reductions in body weight, blood pressure, total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides, along with increases in HDL cholesterol. The authors reported no significant change in A1c or BMI, so more research is needed to confirm the size and durability of these effects. PubMed
